Friday, October 29
Juan had told us about a crepe restaurant and a fondue
restaurant, but alas, we had lunch plans in SF, and didn't want to spoil
our appetites. So we headed off and got convenience store snacks to tide
us over. We got to Rasputin's, where we were doing our instore, and dropped
off our gear. Then we met up with our friend Paul, and went to this pretty
swanky restaurant, where we had a really amazing meal and Sean claims
he saw Adrien Brody on the way out.
We walked back to Rasputin's, and did our instore,
which was pretty fun. We took requests, some of which went better than
others. It had been a while since we'd rehearsed Gameboy. Oops...

There we
are up on the balcony.
Then we headed to Oakland and got lost looking for
the Warehouse we were playing at. Oakland is not really a good place
to get lost. But we eventually found it and brought the gear in, and
even though we'd had several offers of places to crash that night, we
were all majorly exhausted by this point and really needed to find a
hotel, because a pre-show nap was an absolute necessity. We managed to
navigate ourselves into a less-scary neighborhood and got a room
and had a nice Thai meal, and then had an extremely satisfying sleep.
While I was getting ready, the boys got sucked into watching some horrible
slasher movie in which the teenagers snoop around in the crazy murderer's
shack in the woods. It was hard to tear ourselves away from that.
Anyway, we finally got to the party, and it was a
great time. We met Philip, who'd put the event together, and we were
pretty excited about finally getting to play with the Lovemakers too.
They put on an amazing show. By the time we went on it was like 2 or
2:30,
so there were fewer people there, but the folks who stayed were super-crazy
and fun. We had the best time. The sound was such that I had to scream
at the top of my lungs in order to hear myself, so by the end of the
set
I was completely hoarse, and we were all wiped out, but soooo happy,
it was a really kick-ass night.
