Saturday, April 13

The day started out with a lovely breakfast. Sean got me a funny frog pastry from the bakery. Rick and Judi came over. Then it was time for our most exciting adventure of all! No, it wasn't. It was time to do laundry. Our undies were getting a bit onion-smaggy (we later found out in Danish, onion is also slang for "balls," so as it turns out, da Boof was more right than he knew...). We headed to the laundromat and sorta managed to figure out the confusing system. Wow, nothing takes longer than laundry when you're in a foreign city and wanting to get out and do more exciting stuff.

By the time the laundry had finished, there was no time to really do anything much before the evening's adventures. So I figured I'd make us some dinner. I went down to Kvickly, the local supermarket. It was closed! It was a few minutes after 5:00. Remember that whole thing I was saying about the Europeans and convenience? However, there were some smaller grocers open, so I got some pasta and veggies. But then when I tried to get bread, the bakery had already closed. Which was quite sad, because Danish bread is pretty excellent. I guess if you're used to things closing so early on the weekends, you can plan ahead. So let this be a warning to you, next time you're in Copenhagen.

Then it was off to this weird basement that was some kinda biker club or something? The Señors had rented it out for Lasse's birthday party. We witnessed a macho Danish game that involves hammering spikes into a big stump of wood. It was a fun party, and so cool to get to see the Señors in action again. Our set took an interesting turn when we borrowed Si Señor's drum set. We ended with a completely live version of "Tender Lies" with Sean on keyboards and the Duke on drums. Well, Rick seemed excited about it, anyway. So the party kept going, we kept dancing, and eventually it hit us how funny it was that we were hanging out in a basement in Copenhagen. It just seemed so Allston. The combination of familiarity and strangeness really worked for us. The Duke was walking zig-zaggy by the end of the night. Rick is such a bad influence.
